HD available size issue

Hello, I have a new laptop with Window XP installed. I don't don a lot of
work with the computer, other than using web browser and doing emails.

My hard drive is 100GB, and when new I had about 40 GB free.

Last week I realized that the system was slow, and when I checked, I only
had 1 GB free !!! I didn't download anything, I have anti virus and anti
spyware (Windows defender) up to date.

After running disk cleanup I was able to free up almost 35 GB. But yesterday
I was back to 5GB free, and cleanup this time didn't help much.

Do you know what may be going on ? Maybe some tracing active somewhere ? Any
help will be very appreciated.

Thanks
Paolo

I find it difficult to believe that a brand new computer with a 100GB
hard drive was delivered to you with only 40GB of free space, unless you
had a truly astounding amount of software pre-installed.

Your computer is almost certainly infected with malware.

To find out which folders and files are taking up all that disk space,
go to Start > Search and search for all files above, say, 25MB. When the
results appear, sort them from highest to lowest.

These two statements are difficult to relate to your stated use of the
computer.
"My hard drive is 100GB, and when new I had about 40 GB free."
"After running disk cleanup I was able to free up almost 35 GB."

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report . Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save
As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents Folder and post a
copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it is more
informative.

Hope this helps.

Check to see if System Restore is turned on.
