HD and Windows Installation Issue. HELP!!!

I recently purchased a new Seagate 300GB SATA Hard Drive.
My computer consists of:
Processor: Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P4P800 E Deluxe
RAM: (2) Kingston 512MB PC2700 DDR
DVD-RW: Pioneer 8x DVD-RW (primary)
CD-RW: Lite-On 52x CD-RW
Hard Drive: Hitachi 40GB IDE (master), Western Digitial 120GB IDE
(slave).
I installed the new 300GB SATA HD while my computer was functioning as
the (E:) Drive. I wanted to use the 120GB IDE as the primary and 40GB
IDE as storage along with 300GB SATA in any order it didn't matter. I
attempted to install Windows on the 120GB while it was a slave. When
the DOS mode and setup loading was complete it rebooted and froze on
the WIN XP loading screen, with the rolling bar on the bottom freezes
after one cycle. I went back and tried to install Windows with 120GB
installed only and it did the same thing. I tried to reconnect the HD
configured in the original configuration while it was working and was
unsuccessful. I get an error message of something about a HD
configuration or path (will update later this evening) it does not even

get to the Windows XP loading screen.
As I do not in wish to install windows on the 300GB HD is it possible
for me to use the hard drives in the order that I would like or is it
not possible? Why am I unable to install Windows on my 120GB HD?

Thanks in advance to everyone.

The first thing I would try is to make the 120 GB drive the Master on the
primary IDE channel and the 40GB the secondary on the Primary IDE Channel
(save the secondary channel for the optical media drives.)]

I have seen many problems with people trying to install XP on the secondary
drive (even though I believe this is possible.) Make sure to change the
jumpers on the drives when moving them into their new position.

The problem is occurring since XP does not know which HD to start from. Since
two copies of a start-up of XP exists, XP boot loader is confused!

When I try and install Windows after the initial setup page when it
reboots it freezes no matter how I have it setup. Even when I have only
the 120GB drive as the master alone. Is something wrong with the hard
drive? Hard drive was perfectly fine until I moved all the data to the
300GB and tried to install windows after formating the drive.

I am unable to install windows on the 120GB HD. I have tried to connect
that HD alone and install but was unsucessful. It always installs all
the setup files and when it reboots to install windows it freezes on
the WIN XP screen with the rolling bar freezing after about 1 rotation.

This is what I get when I try to boot the computer with my original
Hard Drive that was working properly until I tried all this.

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware
configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk.
Check boot path and disk configuration and your hardware reference
manuals for additional information."

Well my motherboard does not have an onboard video card. So I can not
disconnect everything. I did follow those procedures many times it
always freezes at step 14 .... well after it reboots and when it gets
to Windows XP screen.

Yesterday my computer started when I reconnected it the way I had it in
the beggining. I verified that I was able to read the contents on the
120GB drive and I was able to. Then I got excited and proceeded to
install windows again on my 120GB. I was unsucessful once again, then I
tried to get my computer running again in the original HD configuration
and once again its not working. I have verified all the jumpers are in
the proper position as when it was working previously and when it
worked yesterday but NO DICE. WTH is going on?!?!?!!?

Extra devices means also, the multiple cd/dvd drives, any PCI cards, just
use vid card, cd, mouse, keybd and single ram stick, single hd.
Ensure hd is jumpered and connected correctly, set bios to defaults, boot
from wincd and delete, then create partitions and procede as per link.
If its still baulking you have a hw problem

It is still balking. How can I find out which HW is causing this issue?
I just tried to install Windows on my 300GB SATA HD also and same
result.

1) Visit you hd manu web site, download and creat their floppy checking
utility.
2) Same with memtest86+ (google) and run for several hours to test memory.

Installing on sata is different, you need to read mobo manual for specific
instuctions as methods of set up vary
(HW/Bios setup)
