Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way NOT to have Windows ask me to
choose User Account upon boot-up.
There is only 1 user using my computer and I hate having to choose
myself as the User, it's a waste of time.
Can I have Windows boot-up to User name by default without waiting for
me to choose?

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
In the box that pops up, replace Administrator in the "User
Name" box with your user account. Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if your account does
not have a password.
Click OK twice and reboot to see if you get the desired
results.

1) Click Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
2) Highlight the user you want logged on automatically
3) Uncheck users must enter a username and password...........
4) Click Apply
5) In the next dialog, enter the password, if any, for the account you chose in step 2.
6) Ok your way out.

Goto Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2"
Then under the users tab, uncheck Users must enter a username/pass to use
this computer"
Then press ok and Enter your username/password

Or

Alternatively, you can use TweakUI for Windows XP to do this.
See the Logon/Auto-Logon Section

Go to the Start Menu and the Run box.
.. Type in the following:
control userpasswords2
.. now click OK
.. In the new Windows that appears select the account you wish to make the primary
logon.
.. Now uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password..." box.
.. Hit Apply and a dialog box will appear asking you to confirm the selected users
password.

Click OK.
The changes will work the next time you restart your computer.

Simply, remove your password. How?

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts

then click an account then click "Delete password" or something.

Hello Sat

What Tsuniper-X said will work, but if you already have a password on
your account, it's a shame to make it less secure by getting rid of it.

Instead go to Start > Run and type in:

Control userpasswords2 <ok>

In the box that appears, click on your name, then uncheck the box that
says "Users must use a password. . .", and hit Apply.

A dialog should appear with your name already filled in. Type in your
password twice, as requested, then OK twice to close. The next time you
reboot Windows will log you in automatically.

Hope this helps.

Mario;
The OP has Windows XP Home and IIRC, that option in Power Toys applies only
to Windows XP Pro.

How important is it to enter my user account in place of Administrator,
as u suggest, by the way? Must I do that or can I leave Administrator?

With XP Home Edtion, you don't have a choice. You have to
change it to another user account. That's because in Home
Edition, you're only able to logon to the built-in
Administrator account when the computer is running in Safe
Mode.

You'd need to be running XP Professional Edition in order to
logon automatically with the Administrator account. But that
doesn't mean that you should. The Administrator account is best
left for emergency use only.

As long as you don't try to logon with the Adminstrator account
that feature of TweakUI works just fine on my XP Home system.
