Having Big Problem with XP

chris

Hi, I hope you can help me, nobody else seems to be able to figure this out.
I recently

purchased a used HP Pavilion notebook that has XP as the oper. sys. and also
came with Corel

WordPerfect Office 2000. I don't like Corel and I have been trying without
any success to

install MS Office 2000. Everytime it starts to install, within 1 minute I
always get an

error message saying: "Error 1305, Error reading from file:

D:\PFiles\MSOffice\Office\OUACTRL.OCX. Verify that the file exists and that
you can access

it." This is a new error message that just appeared today. Previously I
would get a similar

message except the file is gave an error for was WINWORD8.DOC.
I really believe that this has to do with Windows XP because I have no
problem installing

the exact same Office disk on my previous laptop, which had Windows 98SE
installed. I never

get a message when installing it on 98.
It's not my cd-rom drive because I have not only used the internal drive
but also an

external cd-rom drive.
Any ideas?
Thank You

Chris
