Having a problem with PowerPoint on my laptop

Why can't I open a PP pres. on my laptop? "file you tired to open may not be
a microsoft office powerpoint file. It is. I have PowerPoint 2003 on my
laptop and have opened presentations in the past.
Please help!

Two things to consider:

1. "Recovering a corrupt presentation" from the PPT FAQ:

2. If you have not applied Service Pack 1, do it. PowerPoint 2003 out of
the box has some serious issues that are resolved with SP1. Some of
those serious issues involve difficulty opening perfectly good PowerPoint
files.
