Having a problem with Outlook 2000 in XP

I hope someone can help me with this. O 2000 worked well for 5 years than
two days ago it developed a problem. It stalls out trying to load . the
memory usage is 100%. In a couple minutes it finally opens only to do the
same thing again when I try to open a new email. I tried to repair--no
help; tried unininstall and reinstall O 2000 but still no help. Could it be
a problem with XP where a dll or something is corupted. I fear a reinstall
of XP because I fear I will lose everything. Is there something I should
look at or do to get this fixed? by the way OE works fine.

Do you have Norton or similar AV\Firewall installed that is set to protect your incoming\outgoing email. Tried to disable it or shutting it down? What happens
