Lately my Windows XP Home Edition has been acting up. If
I were to press "Shut Down Now" or "Restart", the
computer would do so.. although it would take it around a
minute and a half to accomplish, while showing no signs
of being busy in between. After hitting "shut down" or
the like, the dialog box goes away, and I am returned to
my desktop. Also, in My Computer, double-clicking on "C:"
will not open up the drive's directory. It will display a
busy mouse cursor, but will not actually open the drive.
I have to right click on the "C:" icon and click
on "open" or type "C:" in the address bar of I.E. These
are just a few of the problems I've been having with XP.
Any help would be appreciated.

Boot your machine into safe mode and see if it shuts down properly there.
If it does, use the msconfig utility to find out what process is hanging
your machine at shutdown.
