Morning everybody. It will be great if you can take a look at two gadget as the following :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Optimized-Inateck-Including-Comaptible-Tool-Free/dp/B00GIDNLI6

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Optimized-Inateck-Including-External-Tool-free/dp/B00HMVPQ1S

In fact, I have bought the first one on Amazon. It will help me a lot in learning how to upgrade a computer at least the operation is not so complicated. Easy set and operation even with my 5-old-year hard drive. But I noted the second is much similar to it especially in the product description both optimized for SSD. I prepared to purchase this kind of gadget again but am hesitated if I should choose the newer second one as I expect better performance . How you will see ? How about the choice of a prominent SSD ?

Ok, I'll bite.

What exactly is it your trying to achieve? As in, what is it you want to do?

We know nothing of your system!

More info is needed.

Those 'gadgets' will probably not improve performance over an internally installed HD.

I'm waiting for a bus. :)

Adding a USB caddie is hardly uggrading a system.

Ok...The computer info :

ASUS EeePC 900 XP ( Windows XP )

Chuck it in the nearest bin and buy a proper laptop.

Some good advice here >> Link on that model Netbook. it appears updating the BIOS and changing to Win 7 would be a worthwhile improvement. Note the need to install ACPI drivers prior to BIOS upgrade.

The two docks you've linked to are worthwhile if you want extra storage and/or backup, get yourself a nice big hard disk to go with it (or several hard disks) I use one of those myself,, an e-SATA dock.

I'm assuming you already have an external optical drive, if not they're worth having and you'll need one if you want to install a new operating system (Win 7). They're about 25 - 30 quid.

You could also consider adding more memory or changing the internal hard disk to a bigger one.

But upgrading BIOS and changing from XP to Win 7 to start with is the way to go imo.
