Has anybody succeeded with IIS home server & FP Extensions?

If you have, hundreds of us would like to know how you did it. I and others are at it 5-10 days now. Here's where I'm at

1. Uninstalled II
2. Reinstalled IIS unchecking FP2002 Server Extension
3. Downloaded & saved FP 2002 extensions fpse02_86_eng.exe. Dbl clicked, installed. They now appear in control panel l under add/remove program
4. Changed IIS port to 7
5. Configured/extended server using DOS prompt per paper 300543 owsadm.exe -o install -p 79 -u name -sp publis
This completed ok with message Port 79: Upgrade completed 5.0.2.480
6. In FP 2002 used wizard to create discussion board D:\My Documents\Webs\testboard
7. Changed IIS default directory to abov
8. In IIS, right clicked on Default Web Site/New & clicked FP 2002 Extensions Web. Named subweb fpextensions where it now appears as a folder in testboard
9. Opened IE 6.0 http://localhost:79. Made dummy entries in subject/from /body & clicked submi
10. Got same old message web FrontPage Run-Time Component Pag
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly

Note: I had done all these steps several times previously. It seems to me I have installed & configured FP 2002 extensions on my server, configured my web page with a sub-folder to hold extensions, and by all logic I should be able to make a post. I've done it somehow in the past, although I'm not sure how I've tried so many things. But it's always reverted back to the error above. I've even used the paper on managing discussion threads to delete some of the junk posts. But it never lasted before error message starts reappearing. There are no other right click functions on Default Web Server in either add or all tasks that look like they will do anything for the above

Do the following:

1. Uninstall the FP2002 extensions from your system
2. Uninstall IIS and delete the C:\InetPub folder

Next (and do not change the default port from 80 to 79 or install the FP2002
extensions!)

1. Install IIS
2. Open IIS MMC, and right click on the default web site, All tasks, apply
the FP2000 extensions.
3. Open FP, then File Menu | Open Web and enter http://localhost
4. Create a folder, called Test, right click on Test, select convert to web,
then double click to open in FP.
5. With Test open, File Menu | New | Page or Web | Web Site Template |
Discussion Web and enter the path/location as http://localhost/Test/DiscWeb
6. Open IE, and type in http://localhost/test/discweb/

Now if everything is working, you can install the FP2002 extensions, then
you must open IIS MMC and select each web, then All Tasks, then Upgrade the
extensions.

What is your reason for trying to change the port?

Also, from this point on when working on your web, also open in FP via
http://localhostt/webname/ and to via use the same URL or if in FP, use File
Menu | Preview in Browser.

Ok, Tom thanks. I will try this, although I think I've had partial success as below. I've printed out your instructions and will make the effort. Ro

I've had some partial success in getting a test post to a discussion board to take without the component error
although with some very puzzling results
1. Installing IIS without FP2000 extensions & then installing & enabling 2002 extensions has give me more analysis tools, including the server health check which I will report on below
2. With my board still failing in IE 6 with http://localhost:79/, I switched to http://cove3a.no-ip.info/. I was asked for a password but my Windows administrator password would not take
3. I opened Windows Explorer, right clicked on the default web in question, and clicked sharing/security. I got a message "the permissions in zztest2 are incorrectly ordered. Click ok to correct & sort entries correctly. This discussion web had been created in FP 2002 with the discussion web wizard. The only entry was for EVERYONE, but after the fix, 7 or 8 groups appeared, starting with Administrator which had full access shaded out
4. Now my test posts are accepted without the component page error

Now for the puzzling part
1. I created a new web zztest4 in FP2002 using discussion web wizzard to try & replicate the proble
2. Windows Explorer gave the same error message & fix as 3 above. So obviously I have to read up on FP 2002 web creation, although I would think the Wizard would guide me though any permissions necessary before it created the web
3. I now switched the IIS default directory to zztest4 and right click/new/fp2002 extensions subweb. I named this subweb zzfpextension
4. I then did a web health check which reported 3 or 4 files missing, unlike the check for the good web which was ok
5. I removed zzfpextension and recreated it naming it fpextension, the same name as in my good we
6. Now health check showed no problems. Apparently the fp extensions have to be in a web named only fpextension
I surely did not come across this in any IIS/FP documentatio
7. With the new default web, I now opened in IE 6.0 http://localserver:79/ I got message web not found. Same with http://cove3a.no-ip.info, even after rebooting, closing & opening IIS.
8. However, after deleting all temp internet & history files, I got to the discussion web. I don't know why I should have had to do this simply by changing the IIS default directoey
9. Now for the puzzling part. With the new test web looking exactly like the working one, clean server health check, permissions identical, fpextension folder with the same name & subfolders as zztest2, I get the FP component error

I cannot isolate the failure path which I was sure was due to the permissions problem & the correct naming of the fpextension subweb

I will post this on the FP board, where I see 10 or 15 people tearing their hair out over this same issue, although I still think it's so tight in with IIS that it perhaps belongs on both boards

Me The default web site after IIS install is inetpub/wwwroot. right click on Default Web Site all tasks does not have a menu to apply FP2000 extensions. New has a choice to create a FP2000 or 2002 sub web. Is this choice what you mean "apply the FP2000 extensions"? If so, am I not creating a subfolder with 5 folders in it to hold FP extensions work. And what name do I give the folder? Anything other name than fpextension (in 2002) results in web health erro

3. Open FP, then File Menu | Open Web and enter http://localhos
Me: There is no file/open web only file/open. When i open recent web, it's waiting for a file name. When I type in http://localhost:79, it connects to server & goes back to waiting for a file name to open

4. Create a folder, called Test, right click on Test, select convert to web, then double click to open in FP
Me: Since I can't get past 3 above or if I open index.htm, there's no menu to create a folder. How do I create a folder

What is your reason for trying to change the port
Me My ISP blocks 80 and 8080 & I'm using DNS port redirect service with router set to forward 79 to my IIS computer

If I can get past above hurdles, I'll follow through with the rest, although I seem to be very close to running (see my other post on progress

Sorry, but I didn't notice file/open web choice. When I enter //localhost:79/ it shows two folders, Images and one other. When I enter the name of my web created in FP and stored in D:\\My Documents\FP Webs\zztest (the name IIS is set to as the default directory) I get message "folder zztest2 isnt accessible

Am I supposed to get a list of folders/files of my web, such as index.htm ? Since I can't get past open, I don't know what I'll se
Why do I want to open the web via the server instead of just as a file based web which is how I created and changed it
I don't have to publish it to my server, just point IIS to zztest2 as the default directory

As you can tell, trying to become a webmaster isn't easy. I guess one of the problems with IIS/Front Pages/Front Page extensions is that it puts a lot of horsepower in the hands of relatively inexperienced (in web mastering) people. Although I've got a lot of years in computers, I'm buckling

Ok, I've figured out how to open web. File/open web http://localserver:79. Then at top look in & hunt down the web folder in D:My Documents\FP Webs\ (zztest2). Dbl clicking on zztest2 doesn't put it in the box at the bottom as one would think it would, but clicking open and then file/open presents me with all the htm files in the we

I still can't figure out how to create a new folder. file/new can create a new page or web but the folder choice is greyed out

I'm still anxious to know why I want to work from within the server as opposed to the simple way I've been creating webs & pages

Please forgive the long string of replies. I'm making some progress but am now hung up

While I was still back in my earlier config with 2002 Extensions, I actually did create a folder & convert it to a web. In creating the discweb, I got tangled up, started over, and was never able to get the folder to show black instead of gray. Now after reinstall & going back to 2000 extensions and port 80, it's still showing gra

I'm close but no cigar yet. I still can't understand why I should be using Front Page in http mode rather than the normal way I've been creating webs on my D driv

Tom, success. I discovered I had to switch view to folder to create a new folder. I converted it to a web, then created the discussion web and it tested ok. Whew. Thank

Last questions
1. Why do I have do this in FP2002 in web mode rather than disk mode
2. When I upgrade to 2002 extensions using cmd line as in paper 30054, do I use Port 80 or 79 in the command line. That is, I eventually have to switch IIS to Port 79 to test out my DNS Port 80 redirect due to ISP blocking, and I can't figure out if the 2002 extensions are upgraded on a specfic port or if upgraded on port 80, is everything automatic when I use IIS to change to Port 79
