Not too many of them require it, but a lot can use external power and it
tends to solve reliability issues.

fifty bucks for a 2 PC KVM. I see the ones with DVI that I would like to
buy are well over one hundred bucks.

I normally budget $20-$30 per machine, which amortizes out nicely since
my current 4-port KVM is at least 8 years old.
