when i initially boot up my computer, i get an array of fonts, figures (i.e. hearts, diamonds, smiley faces, assorted characters). my virus scan does not detect a virus now. but awhile back i got a detection of a "Trojan download virus". is the damage done to my motherboard bios? i have flashed a new bios.... to no help. deleted all files found assoc. with this "virus". after the computer finishes booting to xp. the entire screen flashes, start button moves to the top of the screen, nothing runs. i have to turn the computer off for at least 30min. in order for it to boot right again... checked fans and temp. no problems there. Any ideas would be helpful. i think it is a motherboard issure now.?

Disable the system restore utility and run your anti-virus software again.
Also download and run Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Pest Patrol and
HiJack This! to help keep your machine clean. Use a firewall. Update all
these applications as required, and don't forget to run Windows Update
regularly.
