Can anyone tell me why after upgrading to Windows XP from
Windows ME none of my connected hardware is recognized
even after downloading and installing new drivers. I am
using a HP printer and scanner. A San Disk photo reader
and Casio personal pocket pc.

Did you upgrade or do a clean install? If the former, I'd suggest
backing up your data, format the drive and clean install XP. I know for
a fact that the Sandisk should be recognized out of the box.

The Printer should be all right if it is connected on its own. But if
the scanner is one that shares the parallel printer port with it, then
that is one that almost certainly is never going to work in XP -and may
well be blocking the printer, so try printer on its own.

Such scanners used techniques of writing drivers that XP just does not
permit, and the makers like HP have no interest in writing new drivers
for what they see as obsolete devices - anything now is connected by
USB.

The same may apply to the reader and pocket pc if they connect through
an old style serial port (9 pin or 25 pin)
