Hardware driver installation problem: Data invalid

I haven't connected any hardware yet to the Firewire card
(I haven't got anything to connect yet but am planning on
buying a camcorder with Firewire).

In other words, at this stage I am trying to get the
Firewire card itself installed - unsuccessfully so far
because of the problem with the driver (which is supplied
by Microsoft on the original XP CD-ROM).

The funny thing is that I get the same problem with my
new RAID controller. XP recognizes the controller as new
hardware right away but when it comes to installing the
driver (an XP version is supplied by the manufacturer on
floppy disk) the same thing happens: "The data is
invalid - cannot install hardware".

Seems to me the problem is within XP, rather than the
controllers or the drivers. Not sure though...

Would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I am not very hopeful though because I already used
different slots for the Firewire card and the RAID
controller card and got the same error message...
