Why NTbackup switches off hardware compression on DDS4 tape drive? I use
windows 2000 serwer.
How to enable hardware compression when ntbackup works?

Thanks for help

Is hardware compression activated on your tape drive? Usually, there is a
jumper or mini-switch to enable compression.

The option in NT Backup will only work if your hardware does the
compression, as there is no software compression in the product.

Yes hardware commpression is activated.
I checked compresion status by software.
When compresion is enabled and ntbackup is set compresion status changed to
disabled. I can write no more than 20GB (not 40GB) on one DDS4 tape.

This problem doesn't exist in ntbackup in windows 2003 server. Testing
software always shows enable compresion status.

This is not a general problem with NT Backup in Win2000, as it usually
works. There isn't anything in MSKB about this issue, either.

It might be a hardware/firmware problem, have you checked with your
hardware vendor?

I suppose that you are backing up compressible files. If they already are
compressed, hardware compression will not be able to compress them further.
Normally, you get a compression factor 1.2 to 1.4, meaning 24 to 28 GB on a
tape. 40GB is only sales talk. This wouldn't disable the compression state
in NT Backup, though.

I don't know if you missed my earlier answer, but here it is again:
