Harddisk goes sleep, then spins up again

Micheal

I use IDE and have 3 harddrives of the same type. They are Hitachi Deskstar
180GXP.

Now sometimes one of them go to sleep-mode and then spin up again. It
happens every now and sound like i would be booting my computer. But i am
using my computer, so i don't understand why Vista is powering my harddrives
up and down even while i am working on my PC.

How can i stop this? Is there a option like.. "don't put harddisk to sleep
if not accessed" ?

I would rather like my HDDs spinning smoothly all the time.

PS: i already have my power settings on maximum performance.

TIA!

Use the Advanced options for fine control over power saving settings. And
make sure that the problem is not a loose cable or failing drive - when the
system is in use drives should not be going to sleep.

Thank you for this info. I have overlooked the link to the advanced
settings. The time for powering down my harddisk, even in the maximum
performance plan, was set to 20 minutes. I set it to 0 (Never) now. I will
watch my PC for the next couple hours and report back if this helped me.
