Hard hang in XP

I run Windows XP Pro on a PIII 866MHz with 384MB of Ram.
It runs as the internet sharing host on a lan of 3 PCs.
It has been running fine for well over a year, but has
recently started hanging while browsing in internet
explorer. This may not be the only time it hangs, but I
haven't yet seen it hang in any other programs. The mouse
and keyboard just stop responding and you cannot call up
the task manager. Any ideas? Thanks!

Check for heat related problems. Open up the case and see
if all the internal fans (power supply fan) are working.
These kind of problems are hard to isolate without more
information. Does this happen only while internet
explorer? If your keyboard and mouse lock up and you have
to do a hard reset, I would start suspecting some kind of
hardware related problem. Good luck.

Hi,
i got exactly the same problem with my Celeron 466mhz, 128mb - 4gig acer 514t notebook. Every so often (4-14 hours) the machine will lock-up/freeze. The mouse, keyboard and machine lockup completely. No blue-screen or anything like that. I check the admin event log once i hard reset the machine and there doesn't appear to be anything untoward occuring at the time of the crash. There is one thig that appears, but this happens at boot-up. I've followed all the suggestions and have re-flashed the bios with the latest release from the manufacturer to no avail. the fault remains. The crash isn't issolated to any one program. It can happen at anytime running anything.
