Ensure you have the jumpers at the rear of the drive set correctly...
depending on which IDE channel you wish to install it on.

Turn off the PC. Open the case and ensure you connect the ribbon cable and
power cable to the drive.

Turn on the PC and enter the BIOS. Ensure the drive is detected correctly.

Boot into XP.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the followng screen, click
on Disk Management. The new drive should now show up on the right hand side
of the screen from where you can partition and format it (if so desired) and
assign it a drive letter.
