hard drives

What is the difference between an internal and external hard drive? im
thinking of buying a second one for my notebook computer, just looking for
some advice on what to get--thanks!!!

Internal, as it implies, is inside the laptop. External as you could
probably guess would be outside the laptop.
You want an external model.

The difference is the casing, basically. Both contain the same type of
hard disk. You can assemble an external drive easily, and this gives you
the ability to choose the drive that suits your needs.

Internal --> inside the computer.
External --> outside the computer.

Since you have a laptop, you likely have a 2.5" drive inside that laptop.
You can get external cases that allow you to use 2.5" or 3.5" drives as
external devices (firewire/usb/network/etc.)
