I'm running XP pro SP-1 on a Gateway PC. I have (3) 80 gig Hard Drives NTFS connected to USB 2.0 ports that disappear (sometimes right away, sometime after along time) in Windows Explorer making them inaccessible. I shut them down, re-boot & get the recovery from a serious error message.

Anyone know what causes this & how to fix it?

Regards...Don

Check your event viewer: Start / Run / eventvwr.exe.

It is not good policy to have HDD's installed when not in use, or more than one
at a time. System restore on these USB drives will also cause havoc. This
information is not written in stone, however it is good policy.
