Hard drive

It looks as if I may need a new hard drive, if this is the case will I be
able to reinstall Windows XP from the original upgrade disk I bought.

Assuming you have the CD of the Windows you upgraded from, there should be
no problem at all (XP will ask you to insert the old Windows media before it
can conplete the installation).

windows 98 SE was pre-installed when I bought the pc, after I installed XP I
deleted those files to make room on hard drive.

For the upgrade to work XP needs proof that you have a qualifying product to
upgrade from - either the installed OS on your hard drive, or the media CD.
With the HDD out, you will need to obtain a Win 98 CD.
