hard drive working when idle

Hi, the hard drive always comes on when the computer goes idle for a few
seconds. it's not loud, but it's annoying and consistent. not a virus or
spy ware, it's something with windows after a fresh install. thanks.
windows xp pro sp2
 
Could be lots of things, like indexing, background defrag, updating the
music library, etc. Next time the activity starts open Task Manager and see
what process is active. It could also be a virus or spyware.
