Hard Drive working overtime

Hi

I'm running xp home on a P4 with 512meg ram and I'm finding that even when
i'm not doing anything on the pc, or its completely unattended, the hard
drive is working overtime.

Last nite my pc crashed I believe due to a lack of resources and then went
into a cycle of trying to reboot, getting to the windows screen and then
restarting again. I thought this may be due to overheating but no evidence of
that, except that after I left it shut down for about 5 mins, it seemed fine
again. I've cleaned out any dust and ensured nothing is preventing the fan
from working.

Could the two be related?

Can you tell me please what could be causing this and if it can be rectified?

What is the virus/malware status of the computer? Make sure it is clean:

Hello chelle,

Wht is the capacity of the HDD? was it running out of space? did you
run a chkdsk? How long since you ran disk cleanup and defragmented? Is
ur system clean of spyware and viruses?
