Hard Drive Test: Surface Scan
Internal error: Could not obtain drive size
parameters.
_EVENT:??_??
Hard Drive Test: Surface Scan - CAN NOT RUN

Testing completed at 2:48:48 PM 10/6/2004

The selected tests did not run.

Please don't tell me my HD is kaputt, how can this be
corrected?

Try running CHKDSK to see if it can fix the problem. Go to Start->Run and
type CMD and click OK to open a command box then type CHKDSK /F and press
Enter. You will be informed that the disk is locked and asked if you wish to
run the command the next time Windows starts. Select Yes then reboot. Don't
rule out the possibility that the drive is damaged. You should backup
important data.

One way to test the drive thoroughly is to download a drive diagnostic
utility from the drive manufacturer's web site. This will create a
bootable floppy from which the diagnostics are run.

I just ran the CHKDSK /F again ,and it all
looked well to me.It went quick too.
What's with the drive size parameters,is this
something I could or should do?

Just what Hard drive test program were you trying to run? It sounds to
me as if you have one of the new big drives (eg 160GB) and are trying to
use an old program that does not understand their new mode of access

Did you download a drive diagnostic utility for the hard drive from the
drive manufacturer's site like I suggested?
