Hard Drive Space Problem

I am working with a 60GB HDD, with some 17GB free.
Sometimes, out of the blue, after the machine has been running most of
a day, I get an error window saying I am out of space. When I look,
sure enough, I only have some few megs left free, Yet when I re-boot,
my 17GB free space is restored.

What is going on here?

Thanks

This is most likely down to your system restore settings.

After a number of hours, start looking for some very large files or one very
large one. There may be something that is creating a very large file for
some reason. Once you know what is going on, then you can research for the
answer.

Windows is probably reserving the 17 GB of unused space for its Virtual
Memory which serve as file pages. In XP the amount of space reseved for
virtual memory is adjustable.

Some programs that you are running will use up disk space as swap file
(substitute insufficient physical memory).
