Hard Drive Size Problems

Mark

I have purchased a new 160Gb Maxtor hard drive for my XP PC (SP2 installed
and running fine) and formatted it as a single partition using NTFS.

I am rather confused as it is now being reported as a 127Gb drive in windows
but as 163.9 Gb in the BIOS.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Sounds like 48-bit LBA is not turned on but I thought that was automatic
with SP2. Check KB 303013 for instructions.

Didn't see it until I reset the messages. You will also note that the new
message contains a little more info (ie SP2 installed). I have also
downloaded the 48 bit address patch but to no avail.

Within disk management I can see 24.67 Gb unallocated and can right click to
partition it as a new partition.......however I only want one partition. Is
there any way I can "add it on" to the current C:\ drive partition?

Thanks

If Windoze originally made your C: partion 127, and you can now access and
format the remainder, you ought to be able to merge that small part back
into C: using third party products like Partion Magic.
