Hard Drive Capacity Loss

I have purchased a new 160Gb Maxtor hard drive for my XP PC and formatted it
as a single partition using NTFS.

I am rather confused as it is now being reported as a 127Gb drive..........

Any advice would be welcome.

The operating system only recognizes 128 GB or 137 GB of my large capacity
drive.
