Hard drive reporting wrong size...

Hi...

I just "built" my first computer (AMD Athlon 64) and "almost" everything
seems to
work just fine. I installed the operating system on drive C (80 Gig Hard
Drive) and
didn't have any problems with the install or booting ....

I removed 2 SCSI Ultra Wide hard drives and the "2940" SCSI board
from my old computer and installed them on the new machine. The BIOS
recognizes both drives at start up and they appear as Drive E and Drive F
on Windows Explorer.

I went to the Disk Manager and Drive E appears as 4.2 Megs and Drive F as
16 Megs... both are really 40 Gig drives.

In the past I would use FDISK to delete partitions and correct the
problem.... BUT
FDISK doesn't exist in WIN 2000. I checked the Microsoft web site and did a
Google search... but didn't find any information (that I could understand).

I have both Norton SystemWorks 2004 and Driveworks ver 6.03 But neither of
them
will work with Win 2000 server. I couldn't find an upgrade to either program
that
says it will repair the problem.

Is there a replacement program for FDISK that will allow me to access the
SCSI drives
and correct the size reporting? Is there a software product on the market
(similar to
Driveworks) that I can purchase to make the corrections? Is there a
Microsoft
(or any program) that replaces FDISK that I can use?

Since the SCSI program loads in BIOS and both drives are accessible as E and
F in
the Disk Manager program..... I am assuming that this is a Microsoft OS
problem and
not a SCSI problem?

Thank you for your help.

Does Disk Management display the rest or the drive as unallocated space? If
so you can use the same tool to delete all partition info for the drives and
then create new ones as needed. If no you may need to boot into controller
bios to correct the configuration problems. Also check Device Manager for an
errors related to the drives controller.

Thanks for responding...

NO, Disk Manager only shows the smaller size. I deleted the part that was
being shown, but the size
remained the same. I ran the SCSI utility when I booted the system and the
controller and both
drives appear. When I go to "properties" after exiting the utility and
finish booting, the "Drivers"
indicate the drives are working properly, and when I go to "system" and
Device Manager on the
control panel, both drives are OK.

So, I am still at a loss....

I ran the SCSI utilities and did error checking on both
drives, but the AHA2940 SCSI controller doesn't seem to have
any accessible software that I can find?

I reformatted the IDE drive and created a FAT partition (250 MEG) and
then installed Windows 95. I reinstalled Windows 2000 on the NTSF partition
so I could dual boot the computer. I figured I could start up W-95 and
run FDISK, repair the two drive sizes, reboot to Win 2000 and be "fixed.

Unfortunately, I get an error when starting W-95 that says, "not enough
memory"
so it won't start (I have 1 Gig of RAM). I will try to run FDISK from
MS-DOS boot today
to see if that will work.

None of that has anything to do with it. You'll want to check the
configuration in controller bios.

In case you're not aware of this:
Adaptec SCSI controller BIOS is accessible during the boot process.
There's a short "Press CTL-A" or some such message, and a brief wait.
