Hard Drive Problems

HI!
i have a drive with 74.5GB capacity.

It is reporting that i have 74.2GB Used space, but when i
total up all files on the hard drive it only totals 67.7GB.

This has happened after i moved some files out of this
drive and defrag'ed it- i stopped the defrag in process
and i have heard this might screw things up.

so my drive is reporting it is full, when i know it's not.

any solutions without totally formating my drive??
Thanks alot guys, Katie

I don't know what you can do to free up a significant
amount of HD space, but in control panels
under 'performance/maintenance,' there is a link which
says, "free up space on your hard disk." This will clear
temporary files off of your computer and free up some
hard drive space. As far as your HD reporting that it is
full when it is actually not, I cannot offer you help.

Hope I helped a little,
Ken

Schedule a Volume Check.

e.g. in Windows Explorer Right-click the problem drive | Properties | Tools
| Error-Checking | Check Now ...you'll be asked if you want to schedule a
Scandisk for your next Windows session. Restart.

If you right click on a folder and choose Properties, you'll see two
figures related to size: Size and Size on disk. Because of the way files
are stored, the figure for size on disk can be larger. Is it possible the
missing drive space is accounted for in the Size on Disk numbers?

hi and thanks for the response. The difference between
the SIZE and SIZE ON DISK is minimal-- the true missing
drive space is about 7GB...

this is soo wierd. thanks again

Have have Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide
Protected mode ones

The difference may be in System Volume Information folder (restore
points) which by default is allotted up to 12% of a drive - 9GB for
this one
