I was having problems with my OS which was windows98 - got windows XP and put
in on my secondary disk that I had to test out my system to make sure that I
was not having motherboard problems. The disk worked fine and XP worked fine
(I did take out my primary disk before putting XP on my 2nd disk) after
seeing that the software and system was working I took out the disk that I
put XP on and put in the disk that had all of my files. I started to upgrade
this disk to XP and after starting I got a message that it was going to
change some things (I think it was partitions) and it warned me that if I
proceded that I may loose the information on the disk (I do not remember what
message it gave me) Not wanting to loose anything I decided to restart the
system which had Windows98 and I keep getting error messages that it could
not read the disk. I now have the system set up using the small disk which
has XP on it and my large disk with my files as the slave disk. I can not
get into the slave disk and one of the programs I downloaded from the
internet shows that the files are there with the names of the files I
recognized.
What can I do or get to get my files off of the disk that I have all of my
files on that the system says it can not read. Do I try to reinstall or
update Windows 98 or if I install XP will it desttroy the files so that I can
not get them off.
Appreciate any help anyone can give.
