Hard Drive Partitioning

I've got a Sony Vaio with 13.97 GB (1.3 GB free) on drive C: and 129 GB
(10-8.8 GB free) on drive D. I'm ok using a computer, but am no where near
understanding how it was set up and have simply downloaded programs and
stored data in "my documents" which is all on drive c. This was how the
system was set up when I got it new.

I've recently started getting messages that my drive C: does not have
sufficient memory to save any new videos or large files (pictures, etc), and
does not have sufficient space available to defrag.

How do I use the space on drive D and haqve my programs know where to look
for them ?

P.S. Take it easy on me, I may not be the brightest candle in the box :>)

Before trying these steps, make copies of the files stored inside of My
Documents. You shouldn't need these copies but if you hit a snag, you can
concentrate on working through it instead of worrying about the possibility
of losing any of your data files.

To move My Documents:
Right click on the icon for My Documents and select Properties.
There is a Move button. Click that. In the Window that appears, click the
+ next to My Computer. Click to select your D: drive. Move down in the
window to click "Make new folder." Name it something like Docs or My Docs -
we'll suppose Docs for the rest of these directions.

Select the newly created folder and click OK. XP will start copying the
contents of My Documents to the D:\Docs folders. Say yes to any prompts
asking "are you sure you want to move." If you have never moved any of the
other "my" folder (music, pictures, etc), they will be moved too.

When the process has finished, any time you click on "My Documents" within
the XP interface, the contents of D:\Docs will be shown.
