Hard drive installed but not showing up in "My Computer"

I've got a big problem.
I reinstalled XP for various reasons, most prominent being I'd messed around
with it & downloaded so many crappy free programs that I'd messed it up (fair
enough!).
After I've reinstalled XP Pro, my primary HD shows up no problem (this has
XP on it as it's only a 10Gb drive) but even though device manager etc. says
there's no probs with my slave drive (a Quantum Firebird 20Gb HD that had NO
probs prior to reinstallation) the drive does not appear on the screen of "My
Computer" and, apart from the device manager application, does not show up as
being an installed component of my system therefore I'm unable to utilise
this storage & have all my apps & games zipped onto CD-ROMS with nowhere to
install them. Please help, I'm losing my hair & my patience!!!

yes this is a real corker! Microsoft really messed up with this one. I had
the same thing with my new HDD.
i cant remember exactly what i did but i can suggest two things.
A) go into computer management from the administrative tools in control panel.
there are disk utilities for partitions in there.

b)alternatively open the command prompt and run FDISK. this should allow you
to creat a primary partition from there. then you have to run FORMAT. and
format the partition you just made.

I hope these help and im sorry if i remembered wrong!

You can try using the Disk Manager to fix the problem. Open Control Panel >
Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
From the list, select Storage > Disk Managment. Find your drive in either
the top or bottom lists. If you do find your drive, right-click it and
"Change Drive Letter and Paths...". You may have to convert the drive to a
dynamic drive before you can change the drive letter. Hopefully this helps.
