Hard Drive Free Space Question

When I go to the "command" prompt and I look at my hard-drive by typing
"dir". I get a certain number of bytes of free space. However when I use
Windows Explorer I get a totally different number for how much space is
free/available on my hard drive. My question is: Why the difference?

Select MyComputer and rt click on the Drive Icon>Properties. See if it
shows up the same amount of free space there.
