Hard drive free space listed incorrectly? (or 4 gigs of secret fil

My XP main partition (C) has been giving me a problem of late.

It is 15 gigs in size according to My Computer and Disk Manager. They both
say that of that, I only have 600 MB free.

However, when I open C: in explorer, highlight all the files/folders (while
showing hidden), right click and select 'properties', the total file size is
only 10 gig.

So what and where is the other 4.4 gigs of files?

If anyone knows where this math is not adding up, the help would be
appreciated. I didn't know XP was built to add so 'creatively' . :)

Thanks,
Mike

I am always amused when people claim that Windows
lists the amount of free disk space incorrectly and that
it adds its figures "creatively". If this was so we would
have known about it a loooooooooooong time ago!
The problem is much simpler: You are now fully aware
of what Windows stores on your disk. Use one of the tools
below to find out what's eating up your disk space!
