I know that some hard drive manufactures web sites have diagnostic software
for checking out your hard drive. Is this software brand specific or can
any software check any brand drive?
 
Hello, Old Timer: If you do a Google search for " Hitachi Drive Fitness Test
4.00" you will find a download mirror for a superb free utility made
available by hard disk drive manufacturer Hiatachi (who bought out IBM's hard
disk drive business). You can use this on any hard disk drive and it will
analyze it for you. There is a Users' Guide PDF file to help you interpret
the test eresults. Good Luck!
