Hard Drive Crash and Restore

I have been using the XP backup facility for months now -
saving to a second hard drive. This weekend I have had a
crash on my master/primary drive. I have reinstalled XP
and I can see the file on the other drive, however it
will not let me restore the files. Says that it is not
recognizable.

Can someone offer something to help me get this restored?

One thing I noticed is that when I installed XP to this
new hard drive, I misspelled my last name in the owner
field. Due to that I have not re-registered XP. Can this
misspelling have anything to do with the restore file?

Also, how do I change that misspelling so that I can
register the OS again?

Did you install backup after reinstalling XP.
You don't need to register, it is optional. You must Activate within the
time limit. The spelling doesn't matter for either.
You can change the name from system properties, [Winkey+pause/break]>
Computer name.
