Hard drive cable question

I'm trying to install an additional (SATA) hard drive - it appears I need a
cable that can connect to the 8 pin power connection on the hard drive and
then to the EIDE 15 pin connector on the cable coming from the hard drive in
the computer. I can't find a cable that can do this. Do I need to combine
two cables (15 to 4 pin, then 4 to 8?)

Larger computer stores like Fry's have all kinds of cable
combinations. If you're not near one you find almost anything on the
web.

Often you get an adapter with the hard drive. did you check the
packaging?

Do you not have several sata connectors on your motherboard?
The sata cable is about 1/2" wide an Ide cable about 2"
Do you not have a spare power connector on your power cables to plug into
the drive?
(look at the wiring on your current sata drive)

You certainly dont connect the ide cable to a sata power connection

SATA cables don't plug into the EIDE socket, the connector on both ends of
the cable are exactly the same and need to be plugged into the SATA drive
and a dedicated SATA connector on your motherboard - there are usually 4
SATA connectors on the motherboard each around half and inch in width.

Ummmmm it sounds like your machine doesn't have a SATA port.
If the cables dont have any place to go then you need an adaptor card.

You would have to buy a sata cable
You would usually excpect to find a spare sata power connection allready
present on your power cables in the PC

You should be able to get a cable from any good computer store.
