hard drive activity

I have a brand spanking new Sony VAIO desktop. I've had it less than a week.
Today I am noticing the hard drive light blinking constantly when the system
is supposed to be idle. The only thing showing any significant CPU usage
under Windows Task Manager / Processes is the "System Idle Process" which is
running at 98 (using 20 K of memory). Is this normal?

Thanks for any input.

Yes it is normal. It means the computer is idle. For the hard drive, turn off
indexing in services.

Okay. Thank you. I must have indexing turned off in my other computers,
because I'm not used to seeing some much hd activity.
