hard disk driver not found

hi,

i recently added a 3rd hard disk to my system. actually, it's an old
disk i took from another machine: a western digital 30gig ide drive.
the disk is detected ok, hard disk icon is shown but then winxp
suddenly asks for a driver for the new device. and i dont have any,
and i dont think it should require one. the installation doesnt find a
driver and so a yellow mark is shown next to the icon.
it doesnt mean the disk doesnt work. i successfully imported my old
partition using disk manager and the drive letter is shown. only
problem is that each time i reboot the computer or update the computer
manager info, winxp asks for the driver. why is that?
(a curious thing: when i select one of my already installed disks --
they're also western digital ide, though different sizes -- and click
on update driver, winxp doesnt find any driver for them either.)

any ideas?

Try WD's site, see if you can get the driver off there,
put it to a floppy.
Maybe will work.

I later noticed that any new hardware fails to install -- or driver
software for that matter, such as Acrobat. I reinstalled WinXP, now
all works, but there should've been a less radical solution.
