hangs at shutdown

my computer hangs at shutting down. it just wont shut
down and i have to click shutdown twice to shutdown. I
have all the virus scans and adware spyware crap. but i
want to know if this prob can be fixed. I have updated
all my windows and have a strange feeling its the Desktop
update which im also planning to remove. just that i cant
find it on the trouble shooting places

When shutting down, Windows updates a number of the current
user's Registry settings. Microsoft has a tool, that helps to close
processes that affect shutdown.
It's called User Profile Hive Cleanup tool

Note: this installs as a System service, so there will not be a
program icon for it. However, it will appear in the Add/Remove
programs applet in Control Panel.
