Hanging / Freezing Screen

I've a new Acer laptop with Vista HPremium, the screen continously
freezes/hangs whilst using Internet and I have to reboot. AVG Virus
protection, Spyware & rootkit all run, and in safe mode, all clear, Windows
defender shows all clear. CHKDSK run shows no problems. Hanging occurs at
different time periods of use, no pattern or obvious cause. Happens or
battery or mains use, no settings are set to shut down if unused for any
time, but problem happens whilst in use anyhow. Want to avoid restoring to
factory settings if poss. Help/advise welcome.

If this is a new computer, RETURN IT for warranty repair or replacement. It
should not be doing this and you should be getting it replaced or repaired
before warranty hassles intrude.

Open event viewer (type eventvwr.msc in RUN) and check for logs to view the
error of what might actually be causing this. do give in details of ur
system ram / if u may have disabled virtual memory and the error logs what
it reports. this might help in analysing the problem.

Have you run memory diagnostics? Open Help and Support. Type "memory
problem" in search box. Click on link "How do I know if my computer has a
memory problem?" Read through that article and it has a link to the memory
diagnostics tool.

Good luck!

Tks, I gave this a try and result was again "no problems with system. I now
think this problem is only ocurring when there's a connection to the Internet
even though I am not always/actually using the Internet at the time/everytime
it happens. When I tried running virus protection programs/defender in safe
mode without networking there is no freezing regardless of how long it takes,
when I ran them whilst there was an Interent connection they could not
complete because of the problem and screen would freeze before completing.
No virus been picked up though. Any thoughts?
I'm using IE7.

You can test by using Start - All Programs - Accessories -
System Tools - IE without Add-ons.

IE- Tools - Manage Add-ons
Defender - Check for BHO's (Browser Helper Objects) Do both as
some add-ons can be hidden from Manage Add-ons.

Also with no programs running look at Task Manager for something
conflicting.
