Hang with Preview pane on

I have a user who - only in the inbox mind you - has super slow response
opening an email if the preview pane is on. If I turn off the preview -
which is my preference for users anyway - all is fine. All is also fine in
any folder outside of the inbox proper.

Any ideas?
