Hang during boot

I have a dual-boot with Vista Beta2 Build 5384 alone on a hard drive, and XP
Pro on a another drive.

The Vista install (from DVD received in the mail) went well, and it ran
beautifully. Next I installed the Office 2007 beta (with some interesting
install problems and a solution). Office performed well. At first I could
reboot into either OS with no problem.

But then boot problems began: I would select 'Windows' (Vista) from the
dual-boot menu, and "Windows C 2006 Microsoft Corporation" (where C is the
copyright symbol) would appear at the bottom of the screen in white
lettering on a black background. After a few seconds, the screen would
blank, and stay blank/black. Nothing further would happen, and after a few
minutes I would reset the computer to try again. But after three or so
repetitions of this, I would be able to boot Vista, and it would run
normally. I have attempted to find some reasons in the Vista log files, but
nothing appears related.

Can anyone help with this? Perhaps Vista has some kind of Repair install...

TIA. - Lew

Lew--

If you have a Vista DVD, there is a promising "feature" or utility in Vista
called Win RE or Windows Recovery Environment.

This is the best documentation I can find to post for you--MSFT is more
concerned with using the public Beta to market sales than getting the
writers with the Recovery and Desmond Lee's Win RE team to get off their
butts and publish anything on the web that's substantive. They've done some
superficial chats and Live Meetings that have resulted in Beta testers
posting how much they don't understand about these features regularly, and
there are a couple sentences about this feature that say absolutely nothing
in the so-called Vista Product Guide which is in essence a superficial
cheerleading manual.

Superficial treatment of Startup Repair

***Accessing Windows RE (Repair Environment):***

1) Insert Media into PC (the DVD you burned)

2) ***You will see on the Vista logo setup screen after lang. options in the
lower left corner, a link called "System Recovery Options."***

3) Select your OS for repair.

4) Its been my experience that you can see some causes of the crash from
theWin RE feature:

You'll have a choice there of using:

1) Startup Repair
2) System Restore
3) Complete PC Restore

Good luck,

Congrats to Kim for celebrating the American Independence Day by launching 3
ICBMs today. Some people use firecrackers, and the immeasurable respect
that North Korea and other countries have for Bush and Condi resulted in 3
Missle launches on July 4, 2006 right after the space shuttle launch.
Coincidence your butt!

You drain the treasure and you dilute the armed forces stupidly and this is
what will happen.

Chad,
Many thanks, I'll check into/try Win RE, and post back here how it went
