hang at applying personal settings

Intermittant Win2k problem: users log in, and hang up
at "Applying your personal settings." We end up leaning
on the power switch, and on restart the system works. All
systems are Dells, at least SP3; we see it on laptops and
desktops, all models. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply.

No roaming profiles. Not sure what you mean
by "autosense;" automatic 10 v 100 detection? If so, just
about everyone.

Change that on all servers & workstations - it may not be the cause of this
problem, but it isn't recommended (I've seen many problems with it). Lock
everyone down at a specific speed/duplex setting.
