When logging onto a windows 2000 box the log in hangs at the "applying personal settings window". Does any one have any thoughts on how to fix this???

Try loggin on with another user account to see if its a corrupt profile.
If the other account logs in properly then copy all the personal files
over from the errant account and delete/recreate the profile
