Handy shortcut no longer working

Hi

a while ago I was told about a handy way to type in internet addresses that
ended it .com. For instance, instead of typing www.yahoo.com, I simply typed
in yahoo and held down the CTRL key while I hit enter, and this filled in the
rest of the address for me. It was really convenient - However, this has
stopped working on my computer, and now if I type yahoo (for example) and
hold CTRL and enter, it just takes me to MSN search results as if I had just
pressed enter. I hope this makes sense. Can anybody tell me why this has
stopped working?

Many thanks for anybody that takes the time to help

There have to be some settings set right before Ctrl + Enter will add www.
and .com

From Frank Saunders, MS-MVP, IE/OE
<quote>
Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\AutoComplete
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

Also see...
Pressing the CTRL + ENTER keys do not add prefix http://www. and .com at the
end

Cheers Wesley

Turning autocomplete on for web addresses did the trick. My brother had
unticked this and that was why wasn't working.

many thanks
