I've been trying to network my 2 computers for 6 months, They want 60$ to
come to my house and set it up, because i live so far from town.

I have a Linksys Router (BEFSR41) wire, RCA Cable Modem, My cable co.
said I had to buy the router so both pc's could access the internet, Ok they
both can, but no matter what i do they can't share anything,
I've tryed the Wizard and used the floppy it made to set up the other pc,
I have my printer set up for sharing, I have a shared folder on both PC's,
I've even tryed NWLinkIPX/SPX/NetBIOS Protocol, as the Wizard said to do,
And that didn't work either.
All the web sites i've visited seam to deal with Wireless Routers, Or a
normal person can't understand what there talking about.
I don't know what else to try, Thanks for any help you can offer....

Start at the lowest possible level. Please report the results of
running 'ipconfig/all' in a Command Prompt on each of the machines.

I have the same setup and it works fine.
Go to Folder Options in the Control Panel and enable Simple file sharing.

First open the Properties of My Network Places, delete or disable all
connections except your internet connection, (all computers). Right click
your IC go to Properties the Local Area Connection Properties will open,
install Client for MS Network, File & Print Sharing, Internet
Protocol(TCP/IP)(on this protocol click Properties select Obtain IP and DNS
Automatically), install NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios Protocol(this will allow the
firewall to be enabled), click OK. Now back on your Network Connections
click on the left of the page, Setup a Small Home Network, the wizard will
open then just follow the instructions, when you get to the point to Create
a Floppy then do so, then you just run it on the other computer,(insert the
floppy in the other puter open My Computer double click A drive then double
click the link that appears. Be sure to name your Workgroup (not domain) the
same and give each computer a different name.





To hook up Printer sharing just install the printer on the host computer go
to Printer and Faxes right click your printer, then go to Sharing, then set
it to Share then name it, click OK.

Go to the other computer open Printer & Faxes on the left of the page click
and a printer then follow the instructions

Like you I came up with a lot of search results that
dealt with wireless home networking. When this happens
you can use the minus sign to omit results that contain a
word. So for example when I used google to search for
this I typed this:

home network setup beginner -wireless

Please understand that things have turned quite complicated these days.
There is absolutely no offence that you can't fix it yourself - exactly as you
don't pick the hammer if you can't fix a car or TV.
Save yourself from unneeded frustration and loss of time and give the techs their mere $60...
Or maybe you prefer to bring your PCs and router to their place and let them setup and test everything, then bring back
and re-asemble.

As William P.N. Smith has said, let's start from the beginning. It's
really not that hard although if you're not aware of the concepts the
details can seem confusing.

From the command prompt on each machine, run 'ipconfig /all' (without
quotes) and show us the results.

The IP address on the main puter should be 100 and the 2nd should be 101

OK, looks good so far, you have a linksys router? Any particular
reason you don't have full-auto IP on absawesome3300? What do you get
from each machine if you ping the other? Open a Command Prompt and
type:

Just checking, you don't have any software firewalls running on either
of these machines, do you?

I pinged both machines and they both worked fine, I went in to the Local
Area Connections Properties, In the wifes PC and saw that the there was
about 6 different things with check marks in the boxes I disables the Net
Bios box and reset-up the Wizard on her PC and that fixed everything, I'm
greatfull for all the help, Thanks Again.
