halt send/receive

How can I halt a send/receive that is taking place for all accounts?

I do not mean set the account for this I mean just at that perticular time.

Background: When Outlook is receiving email my computer can't do other tasks.

Disconnect from the Internet (or Network).

Instead of disabling it wouldn't you rather solve the actual issue?

Often I want to continue to use the internet. I just tried the choosing
"work offline" and found that when receive is in process it does not halt
the action.

But you can still press the Cancel button in the progress dialog. As I
indicated before; you are much beter off solving the actuall cause of
stalling the computer as it is not normal behavior.
