I didn't know you could pre-order the CD. I guess I should read that
thing in the box.

I was just going to download it and burn my own CD.

Well... the game aint out yet!

And untill it's out... they can't ship it! And shipping costs
money..yes.. I heard you also can download it through Steam... you
just need your coupon serial for such!

anybody know how that steam works when downloading it.
By the sounds of it does it only download bits as you go through the
game, which i wouldnt be happy with.
I also wanted to download the lot in one go and burn.

Assuming you mean through Steam then I don't think this'll
work. AFAIK Steam will stream the sections to you as you play
through, which means you'll never have a complete dataset.

Could be wrong though.

would'nt worry about it too much yet - not out for another 4-6 mths.
If HL2 uses Steam the same as say CounterStrike 1.6, you can
download/install from CD base install. Then any pathces/updates/anti cheats
etc that get released (that you would have had to do manually before as in
CS 1.5) are automatically checked for and updated each time you login to
Steam Network (you register with a username & your cd-keys are associated
with it).
It's a nice idea, bu the current execution needs improving before HL2 - too
flaky at the moment.
You'll probably be able to d/l the whole thing from Steam - hope your on
Broadband/Cable ...........
