HAL.DLL???

When I run XP (Home or Pro) I sometimes get a message that says
"C(D):\Windows\System32\hal.dll is either missing or corrupt". But when I got
to repair Windows it doesn't repair(Either it freezes or crashes) I have
tried to replace it but still nothing. This all started when I tried to get
an add-on running. When i E-mailed the company they satated to "Remove the
following directiories from regedit" When I questioned them why I would need
to do this. ANd would it destroy my PC they replied with "No".
I also get an "Issass.exe" corrupt file as well. (Which I think is part of
the Audidgy 2 drivers, maybe - but then if it restarts why would'nt it be
part of windows??) With this problem it will just restart at random intivals.
WHY???

Read this to install Reccovery COnsole:

Start with XPs CD (if necessary go into BIOS and change the boot order; CD must be the first)
Press "R" and choose the Windows to repair. Then type always without quotes:
"bootcfg /rebuild"

I hope you have not damaged the hal

That message is rather misleading. It happens because the boot.ini file
that tells the boot where to look for 'Windows' is damaged, so it is
looking for files in the wrong place - hal.dll just happens to be the
first one it looks for. And trying to replace it may give a wrong
version

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Use
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot,ini
DEL C:\boot.ini
to delete the bad one
BootCfg /Rebuild

to search for Windows installations and make a new one
