had to send file as zip file

Yesterday I was sending my sister an email that included a file folder
attachment that contained a few word docs in it and outlook made me zip the
file first in order to send it. Outlook said it didnt support the file and
that it couldnt send it unless it was a zip file. Is this something new with
outlook or could it just have been that the file size was a bit large 14mb or
does it just require that all multiple files be zipped prior to sending?

Im running Office 2003 with Windows XP.

Thanks in advance.

Outlook doesn't zip files - you must have an addin that's doing it.

14MB is very large, though, and you ought to be zipping that anyway,
yourself.

Hi,
Maybe one of the files in the folder you try to send is a zip file?
Outlook can not seperate them and ask you to zip the lot.

With outlook 2003 I have never been able to send a folder containing multiple
files, when I click on a folder then the "insert" option changes to
"open"...are you sure you have been able to send "folders" before ??

None of the files were zip files. They were in a folder and all were either
word docs or pdf formats.

I had said that Outlook said that I had to zip the file in order to send it.
Outlook didnt automatically zip the file for me. I had to use winzip to zip
the file folder and then attach the zip file to the message. I dont have an
addin that automatically zips files although winzips new version does it a
different way then before which also didnt have me save it to disk first.

It wasnt really a big deal was just was wondering if this was a default
action of outlook or not. Now I know for next time to just zip the files
first then email the attachement.
